Should I use an airbrush or paint brush with Medea NuWorlds paint?
Either one! All NuWorlds Paint colors are paintbrush and airbrush ready - directly out of the bottle!
How should I prep the surface?
You don't have to! While scuffing and cleaning the surface never hurts, our durable formula is DTM (Direct-to-Mini), which means no sanding or priming is needed for our paints to stick. Don't waste time on prep - get to the fun stuff!
Where do I start?
Zenith and Impenetrable colors are both opaque and are an excellent place to start. They’re great for base coating as they essentially have a built-in primer, and they cover quickly. They are different from traditional spray primers as they cover in 1-2 thin coats and keep all the fine details and definition of the figures intact.
What does Zenith/Zenithal mean?
Zenithal painting is a technique which quickly and easily creates striking highlights and lowlights on your minis and figures. First, you paint the whole surface a dark color, like black. Then you pick a direction for your light source. Think of it like shining a flashlight on the figure from one angle. Now take a light color, like white or grey, and spray the figure from that same angle. The lighter color will hit all the areas the natural light would hit, creating highlights on the surface. The dark areas will remain dark, leaving lowlights. Zenith colors are available in Black, White, and Light and Medium Grey.
What does Impenetrable mean?
Impenetrable simply means the colors are opaque. They are impenetrable to light passing through! Impenetrables are available in a spectrum of 8 colors.
What other kinds of paints are there?
All other standard NuWorlds colors have a special pigment blend. Each color uses 6-7 separate pigments per color to make up a unique pigment load. This means when you layer colors, they pick up multiple tones from the layers beneath them creating striking depth and realism using just a couple coats. This saves time and material. The less coats, the better, right?!
Gauntlet Gold and Mirrored Steel are two specialty colors made up of aircraft grade aluminum. They look like real metal when applied, instead of having a chunky metallic paint appearance. They can also be mixed with any other color to create an anodized look.
What is the finish of Medea NuWorlds once dry?
NuWorlds Paint dries to a matte finish.
What is a wash?
A great way to quickly create weathered and aged effects is to apply a wash over your painted minis and figures. Washes are thin bodied and will settle and distribute color into crevasses while leaving the high areas on the surface relatively unchanged. NuWorlds MLG Wash Medium is a mixing medium designed to easily create a wash in any color. You don’t have to buy a bunch of different colored washes to get the effect you’re looking for. You also don’t have to make your own wash medium from scratch. Simply mix any NuWorlds paint color into MLG Wash Medium and it’s ready to apply. We found the ideal mixture to be about 1 drop of color to 20 drops of MLG Wash Medium. Oh, and what’s MLG mean? It means Make Look Good! It’s a simple trick with consistent results.
Can I mix colors?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to do so!
